Last week, the works of two Iranian artists specializing in illumination (Tezhip) and miniature painting, Maryam Khorrami and Azam Eisazadeh, were exhibited at the Turkish and Islamic Arts Museum in Sultanahmet.

This is interesting because, in general, Iranians tend to see Turkish miniatures as simple works from a different world.

However, these two artists have a different perspective; they belong to a new, enlightened movement that recognizes and follows the unique characteristics of Ottoman miniature and illumination art from the late 18th and early 19th centuries.

It is clear that they are also very familiar with the miniature art that has flourished in Iran since the Safavid era.

Since the foundation established by Empress Farah Pahlavi, many Iranian artists have worked in this field. This exhibition was an example of that legacy.

It would be beneficial to repeat such exhibitions in the future.
